David Veilleux on fire in Europe

Two victories in mid-August for Europcar's Canadian

French Professional Continental team Europcar’s Canadian David Veilleux soloed to victory in Saturday’s Tre Valli Varesine following a bold breakaway 10 km from the finish. Veilleux came in 1:06 ahead of a group of ten riders including his better known teammate Thomas Voeckler.

With the win, Veilleux also captured the all-around title of the Trittico Lombardo, three races held around the region of Lombardy in Italy. His first place on Saturday, 24th position in Thursday’s Coppa Bernocchia and 42nd in Friday’s Coppa Agostini lead Veilleux to the title with 15 points.

Although the 24-year old from Cap-Rouge, Que., was also victorious in last weekends’ Mi-Aout Bretonne in Brittany, France, the Trittico Lombardo —won in the past by notables such as Danilo Di Luca and Stefano Garzelli—is Veilleux’s greatest career triumph.
