FDJ goes with elements of French tricolore for 2015 uniform

On July 27 of this year, Thibault Pinot of WorldTour team FDJ stepped on the final Tour de France podium in Paris as one of two Frenchmen on the steps of glory and one of three in the GC top six. Next year Pinot will be looking to match or exceed that feat while wearing a team kit that utilizes elements of the French tricolore. And white shorts.

FDJ’s 2014 colour scheme was mostly blue with red trim.

The team has expanded on the asymmetrical theme of the clover logo by making only the red arm bands symmetrical. FDJ sticks with Btwin to make its unis.

Though the shards of colour on the jersey have a certain caché, the choice of the white shorts is an interesting one. No cycling short is as maligned as the white, not even Ag2r’s brown short, as its tends to be translucent when it’s wet and readily reveals dirt.

The squad has also shortened its official moniker from FDJ.fr–the name of the French national lottery–to FDJ. When it arose in 1997 the team was called La Français des Jeux.

FDJ’s main acquisitions for 2015 are Belgians Jan Bakelants from Omega Pharma-QuickStep and 2011 Paris-Roubaix winner Johan Vansummeren from Garmin-Sharp.
