Canada’s Raphael Gagné (Rocky Mountain Factory Team) finished in fourth and third place at the two-day Providence Cyclocross Festival held on Saturday and Sunday in Rhode Island.

Jeremy Powers (Rapha-Focus) won the opening race ahead of Ben Berden (Raleigh-Clement) and Tim Johnson (Cannondale presented by Cyclocrossworld.com). Gagné was a part of a five-man breakaway that formed during the race. Other Canadians in the mix were Jean-Philippe Thibault-Roberge (Trek Cyclocross Collective) in 24th, Derrick St. John (Stevens presented by The Cyclery) in 25th, Craig Richey (VoMax-SponsorConnected.com) in 38th and Evan McNeely (Norco Factory Team) in 40th.

On the second day, Gagné placed third behind race winner Berden and runner-up Johnson. Gagné played a key role in the lead group that spent much of the race chasing soloist Zach McDonald (Rapha-Focus) until caught with two laps to go.

Berden and Johnson separated themselves from the rest in a battle for the race win, while Gagné rolled in for third place on his own.

Former national champion, Mike Garrigan (Van Dessel) took the hole shot, however, he dropped into 33rd place by the end of the race. McNeely took a strong 9th place on the day. St. John placed 19th, Thibault-Roberge 28th and Richey in 34th place.

Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Team) took back-to-back wins during the weekend of racing. Nash broke away from her competitors to take the solo win during the opener ahead of Elle Anderson (California Giant-Specialized) and Katie Compton (Trek). Canada’s Natasha Elliott (Rare Vos Racing-Stevens) placed 16th, Maghalie Rochette (Cyclocrossworld.com) 18th and Jamie Gilgen (Infinit Canada-Cyclepower) 31st on the day.

Nash won round two after breaking away from runner-up Compton on the last lap. Helen Wyman (Kona Factory Racing) secured third place. Rochette improved her performance by placing ninth on the day. Elliot raced to 16th again and Gilgen was in 27th place.
