German squads among the first to announce Tour de France lineups
Peter Sagan, Tony Martin and Michael Matthews named in start lists
There are 10 days remaining until the start of the 104th Tour de France in Dusseldorf, Germany, and two German WorldTour teams were among the first three to announce their Tour lineups on Wednesday.
Bora-Hansgrohe will be looking to support Slovakian Peter Sagan as he goes for his sixth straight points jersey, which would tie German Erik Zabel’s record from 1996-2001. Peter’s brother Juraj is making his Tour debut. Sagan recently took the black points jersey at the Tour de Suisse while earning two stage wins.

Three Germans are in Bora’s line-up: GC rider Emanuel Buchmann, recently 7th in the Critérium du Dauphiné; Marcus Burghardt; and Rüdiger Selig. Three Poles are in the mix, with two-time and reigning King of the Mountains Rafal Majka, Maciej Bodnar and Pawel Poljanski. Jay McCarthy is the lone Australian.

Team Sunweb is throwing a lot of weight behind Michael Matthews, with plenty of threat for stage wins throughout the squad. Warren Barguil seeks a higher GC position than his 14th in 2015. Leadout rider Ramon Sinkeldam heads up a quartet of Dutchmen, along with Tour debutante Mike Teunissen, Laurens Ten Dam and Roy Curvers. The Germans are leadout ace Nikias Arndt and Simon Geschke.

Katusha-Alpecin are without a main GC contender this season. Instead the Swiss-registered outfit seeks stage wins. The most notable names are German powerhouse Tony Martin and Norwegian sprinter Alexander Kristoff.
Martin’s compatriots Rick Zabel and young Nils Politt are aboard. Croat Robert Kiserlovski starts his 12th Grand Tour. Portuguese Tiago Machado, Swiss Reto Hollenstein, Austrian Marco Haller and Dutchman Maurits Lammertink round out the lineup.
