IMBA Canada facing financial troubles

Call out for support for the mountain bike advocacy organization

The Mountain Bike Tourism Symposium just wrapped up in Sooke, B.C., with some dire news from the Canadian branch of the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA).

The organization has been faced with a challenging stretch of financial difficulties. Former IMBA Canada B.C. regional director James Brown delivered the news that the organization has to shut down various aspects of their operation until they are able to secure better finances. A statement on the extent of the cuts is yet to be released.

While no official word has come from the President of IMBA Canada, the call has been put out to individuals, clubs, corporate sponsors and land managers to help support IMBA by becoming members, and by supporting the 2013 Trail Love Campaign.

IMBA has the mandate of creating more opportunities to ride mountain bikes. The Canadian office was one of the first national offices ever created. Since starting Canadian operations, IMBA Canada has helped consult on trail design from coast to coast, started a dedicated Trail Care Crew to work with volunteers and land managers, and developed a partnership with Parks Canada.
