James Brown, Amelia Walsh take second in BMX competition at the 2015 Canada Cup in Calgary

Day one of the 2015 Canada Cup BMX #6 finals wrapped up yesterday at the Calgary BMX Racing Association track in Calgary, Alta.

In both the elite men’s and women’s categories, Canadian riders held down podium spots. For the Elite women’s class, Amelia Walsh, riding for Clif Bar & GT Bicycles, held down a third-place finish. In the same category, compatriots Chelsea Kingston, riding for Dirty Deeds, Erin Kinnie of GHP Canada, and Cassidy Morghan placed 4th, 5th and 6th, respectively — a strong finish for the Canuck ladies.

In the Elite men’s division, the rankings of the top 8 were similarly splashed with the Maple Leaf, but podium finishes in that class belonged to two riders. Taking a second-place finish, James Brown of Troy Lee Designs, Deft Family timed in just ahead of Kevin Hill, riding for Oakley. 7th and 8th place finishes, meanwhile, also belonged to Canadian BMXers, with James Palmer of Yess BMX taking 7th and Tanner Vandenhoven, riding for Staats, taking 8th.

Sunday’s competition, the final round of the series, will determine the overall series winners. Full results from Saturday, meanwhile, can be viewed here.
