Silber dominates the U23 and Elite men’s classes at the Ontario Provincial Road Race Championships

In the under-23 and Elite men's classes at the Ontario Provincial Road Race Championships today, you could say that Huntsville, Ont. was painted an unmistakable Silber orange.

In the under-23 and Elite men’s classes at the Ontario Provincial Road Race Championships today, you could say that Huntsville, Ont. was painted an unmistakable Silber orange.

With podium-owning performances in both divisions, Silber Pro Cycling was on fire.

The under-23 race was a 184.7 km course, its field of riders averaging a speed of 41.7 km/h. After several laps, the passing of riders met with the trumpeting, supporting cacophany of an impressive variety of noise-makers, Silber cyclists had taken the top two spots on the podium. Alex Cataford rolled in first with a strong lead, finishing with a time of 4:25.30. Behind him, with a gap of nearly two minutes, was teammate Benjamin Perry, taking silver.

Jack Burke, riding for Team NCCH p/b DEC Express, claimed bronze, finishing nearly six minutes behind Cataford.

In the Elite division, Silber’s Ryan Roth powered to a gold medal finish on the Huntsville course, his performance mirroring Cataford’s in the U23 class as he finished with a time of 4:25.30. Riding for Wheels of Bloor/Graywood Dev and finishing with a time of 4:27.24, a gap of nearly two minutes behind Roth, was Bird Bruce taking silver with his ride, while Conor O’Brien of Ride With Rendall p/n Bieme took bronze with a gap of exactly two minutes, finishing at 4:27.30.

The result made the overall podium all Silber’s, with Cataford ranked first, Roth second, and Perry third. Sportif Men’s results, meanwhile, saw Paul Robinson and Wayne Auchinleck, both independent riders, take first and second positions, with Philip Danks of the Ottawa Bicycle Club placing third. In the Master D class, ranging 108.2 km, its riders posting an average speed of 38.3 km/h, independent James Laird took gold, followed by Dan Horchik of Real Deal/Gears p/b Waspcam in second, and Karol Paniak, another independent,taking bronze. Ron Amos of Hammer/53X11 won gold in the Master C Men class, followed by Zbig Anuszkiewicz of Racer Sportif/Mattamy Homes winning silver, and Vito Barbera, riding for B1 Evo Cycling Club, taking bronze.

With a 108.2 km race, averagng 34.5 km/h, Danielle McKibbon of Orthocare Cycling Team won gold in the Master A Women class, followed by Kate Heckman of Dark Horse Flyers taking silver and bronze going to Jodi Wendland, riding for the Ottawa Bicycle Club. In the Master B Women class, it was independent Robyn Angeles taking gold, while CYKL – Junek Velodromes teammates Cheryl Rondeau and Katya Masun took silver and bronze, respectively.
