Jesse Melamed who races the Enduro World Series with Rocky Mountain Urge bp Rally Team took Maxxis plus-size 27.5 x 2.80 Rekon+ and Ikon+ tires out on the technical single track of the North Shore. Maxxis’ new tires give advanced riders the control to push their limits. Maxxis’ new tires are designed to be combined with new long-travel trails bikes like the Rocky Mountain Pipeline that are built around being able to run plus sized tires.

In the video you can watch Melamed flow over trail obstacles such as rocks and roots with ease. Designed as a front and rear combo, the front Rekon+ has knobs to dig into the dirt and find grip. The Ikon+ is closer to a cross country tire offering speed along with taller knobs on the side for good traction.

“These tires are so much fun. I can get myself into all kinds
of stupid situations and come out alive and unscathed,” said Malemed.

The tires provide high-volume casing with a high-thread count 120 TPI construction and start at 715g for the 27.5 x 2.80 tires. The tires use the companies EXO material that is added to the sidewalls for cut and abrasion resistance.

By late summer Maxxis intends to introduce plus-sized versions of the Minion DHF, Minion DHR II and High Roller II.

“We think these new plus tires have it all, with the comfort and grip that a new rider needs, and that an experienced rider can take advantage of to get a faster, more fun ride,” said Maxxis marketing specialist Bobby Brown. “We’re excited about what these new products can do.”
