Trek introduces upgraded lineup of Boone, Crockett cyclocross bikes

In developing its upgraded cyclocross lineup, Trek, it seems, has been taking notes over the last season.

In developing its new and improved cyclocross lineup, Trek, it seems, has been taking notes over the last season.

The cycling brand recently announced the new specifications of its cyclocross fleet, a lineup featuring vital upgrades, new colours and graphics, and in the brake department, more options when it comes to discs. With the exception of two models—the Boone Race Shop Limited and the Boone 7 Cantilever—all of the company’s bikes are equipped with disc brakes, along with front thru-axles.

A significant upgrade for Trek’s Boone lineup is the use of the Trek Domane road model’s IsoSpeed technology, gear whose usefulness was first demonstrated on the tricky cobblestone stretches of Spring Classics courses. Adapted for cyclocross on Trek’s Boone models, the technology serves the same function in a different kind of competition: absorbing the impact of the course. The location of the decoupler has been revised, putting it in line with the top tube instead of in front of the seat tube, as is the case with the Domane. This, of course, allows for a taller top tube, allowing for easier shouldering when hike-a-biking up the run-ups. New disc options are also included.

The Crockett line of cyclocross bikes produced by Trek has also been upgraded, now offering disc brakes and front thru-axles. Like the Boone fleet, it also includes geometry ideal for the ‘cross course, and for those not entirely on board with disc brakes, the frameset comes with mounting for the cantilever variety. Visually, it’s a striking range of bikes. The Crockett’s aluminum frame comes splashed with an eye-catching updated livery of colours and graphics.

Here’s what you need to know about the changes Trek has brought to its cyclocross fleet:

  • New disc options and spec upgrades available for the Boone 7, as well as new disc brakes options for the Crockett 7. A new Sven Nys Race Shop Limited model of the Boone ‘cross bike is also available.
  • All Crockett and Boone models equipped with disc brakes feature a 15 mm thru-axle fork, with the Boone 5 disc and Crockett 5 disc bikes outfitted with aluminum steerer tubes. All other models, meanwhile, will include carbon tubes.
  • Disc brake-equipped bikes feature 135 mm spacing; those with cantilever brakes have a spacing of 130 mm.
  • Disc brake-equipped Boone models include fender mounts on the fork and the frame.
  • Boone and Crockett models can both accommodate tires up to 700x38c.
  • In terms of weight, the Boone model with disc brakes and IsoSpeed technology weighs in at 1100g.
