Tuft misses out on Commonwealth Games time trial podium by 38 seconds
Englishman Alex Dowsett of Movistar improved on his 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games time trial silver by taking the gold Thursday in Glasgow. Canada’s Svein Tuft came fourth, missing the podium by 38 seconds to Welshman Geraint Thomas. Australian Rohan Dennis took the silver medal.

Tuft was always up among the top four at each intermediate time check along the course, but it was clear that Dowsett had the wings. He caught and passed Australian Luke Durbridge, who placed ninth on the day.

Dowsett finished the course in 47:41.78, nearly 10 seconds faster than Dennis. Tuft’s 48:33.24 was .49 seconds better than Kiwi Jesse Sergent.
Canada’s Zach Bell placed 14th with 52:15.38.
