Video: Along for the ride with Norco Factory Racing’s Haley Smith

Elite women's cross country rider discusses the challenges that brought her to where she is today

Haley Smith, a native of Uxbridge, Ont., took to the cross country after getting involved in a number of athletic, outdoors pursuits throughout her life, dabbling in one passion after another. “I grew up playing every sport under the sun,” she said, “with a particular love for dance, hockey and anything that involved the outdoors.”

By her own account, mountain biking didn’t come to her until she was already halfway through high school. But when it did, she said, “I knew there was no turning back.”

 

Like any athlete, though, Smith has had to contend with many challenges. Today, she ride with Norco Factory Racing, which includes Peter Disera and his brother Quinton. They have plans to hit every stop on the UCI World Cup mountain bike circuit in 2017. Smith herself has ambitions for the looming Olympics in 2020.
