Martin rides conservatively early before using his technical skills to take the elite men's win in Sherbrooke, Que.

Jérémy Martin took the Canadian national elite men’s cyclocross title in Sherbrooke, Que. on Saturday afternoon. It was a cold and damp day making the course muddy and technical for the riders. Martin rode a conservative first half of the race before using the courses technical sections to his advantage, striking out from the front group and building up a lead.

Raphaël Gagné took the holeshot out of the gate with Mark McConnell then riding at the front before a chase containing Geoff Kabush, Aaron Schooler and Martin caught and passed McConnell, who goes by the handle ‘Hot Sauce’. Martin then took the opportunity to strike out and build a lead that steadily grew as the race neared its conclusion. Behind, his Focus CX Team Canada team manager and teammate, Schooler held veteran Geoff Kabush off to take second place. It was the races second title of the day after 17-year-old Sidney McGill took the under-23 women’s title.
