Maghalie Rochette third in Pan American Cyclocross Championships
Jérémy Martin top Canadian in elite men's race
Canadian Magahlie Rochette (Luna) challenged repeat winner Katie Compton (USA) in the opening laps of Saturday’s Pan American Cyclocross Championships in Devou Park, Covington, Kentucky, coming third to take the bronze.
American champion Compton, who won late-September’s second round of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup at Jinglecross in Iowa, roared away from the pack to triumph on a hilly, wind-lashed and wet course with some standing water.

Rochette nearly made the junction with American, but Compton powered away with four laps remaining. Crystal Anthony (Maxxis Shimano) passed Rochette late in the race to nab the runner-up spot. Another Canadian, Cindy Montambault, placed 9th and Ashley Barson came 17th.
In the men’s elite race, Cannondale rider Stephen Hyde’s relentless attacking reduced a strong leading quintet before he shook American champion Jeremy Powers loose. It was a repeat of last year’s battle in which Powers prevailed over his compatriot.

The top Canadian was Jérémy Martin in 10th, with Mark McConnell 14th, Aaron Schooler 15th and Michael van den Ham 17th. Van den Ham was a little miffed at his misfortune.
Whew. That way a tough one today. I'm choked to have flatted out of the lead group 20 odd… https://t.co/RpaUilUDYQ
