Michael van den Ham on Trek Red Truck’s scholarship fund for young riders

The B.C.-based development team Trek Red Truck turned 20 years old this year. To commemorate this milestone, Canadian Cycling Magazine spoke with team members, both past and present, to gather facts, figures and memories about the squad that started off as the Italian Cultural Centre Club in 1994. Michael van den Ham, who was third at the 2014 Canadian cyclocross championships, spoke to us about the scholarship program that Trek Red Truck has for riders attending post-secondary education. In 2014, $8,000 was awarded to young cyclists on the team.

“I’m somewhere in the fifth year of a four year program, right now. One of the neat things about Trek Red Truck, is that they not only go out of their way to facilitate the race schedule around people who are in university, but they also offer a scholarship fund that’s available to anyone attending post-secondary education. They collect money throughout the year, and riders like me apply at the end of the semester. It goes a long way to help us continue on with both university and cycling.” –Michael van den Ham
