Pan-Am Games: gold for women’s track pursuit team

Trio shatters Canadian record

Two days after winning bronze in the Pan American Games women’s time trial, Laura Brown was part of a three woman team that took gold on the track in the pursuit discipline. Brown, from Vancouver; Stephanie Roorda, also of Vancouver; and Coquitlam, B.C.’s Jasmin Glaesser, are the first Canadians to win cycling gold in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The trio beat Cuba in the final, breaking the national record by nearly six seconds. Brown and her teammates finished in 3:21.448 to Cuba’s 3:25.335. Colombia edged Venezuela to complete the podium.

On Tuesday the men’s pursuit team also broke the Canadian record on their way to finishing fifth. Rob Britton, Remi Pelletier-Roy, Jean-Michel Lachance and Jacob Schwingboth’s new record is 4:14.389.
