Gallery: Jeremy’s Roubaix blows through Pitt Meadows
Unseasonably sunny skies grace usually muddy B.C. road classic
Inspired by the grit of the European Classics season, a unusually clean edition of Jeremy’s Roubaix rolled through Pitt Meadows at top speed over the weekend.
In place of the usual mud caked faces and rain that usually accompanies the B.C. classic road race, 2019 brought cross winds and a blistering fast pace. Over pavement and gravel pathways, the men’s race averaged a hair shy of 40 km/hr over 2 hours and 19 minutes.
The women’s race was animated by frequent attacks and changing winds. While this made for a hard effort and high pace, the race still came together for a sprint finish. Maggie Coles-Lyster (Pickle Juice Pro Cycling) was able to take the win on what is effectively her home course.
“Despite the small field size, it was one of the most aggressive Jeremy’s Roubaix’s with a great vibe in the peloton. A women’s race Jeremy himself would of supported,” commented race winner Coles-Lyster.
The young B.C. racer was followed by a duo of Trek Red Truck p/b Mosaic Homes teammates. Holly Simonson finished second and Michele Schaeffer third.
In the men’s race, Dylan Davies and his Langlois Brown Racing teammates duked it out on the gravel paths of Pitt Meadows against the Trek Red Truck p/b/ Mosaic Homes team. Davies eventually escaped with Kyle Buckosky of TRT, and the pair were able to stay away until the finish. The pack chased close behind, finishing just 26 seconds after Buckosky and Davies.
It was Langlois Brown taking the day, though, as Davies landed his second Jeremy’s Roubaix victory. Davies last won the longstanding Lower Mainland race in 2017. Kyle Buckosky finished second, and Langlois Brown’s Nigel Kinney third.
