Jackson Goldstone likely to miss first World Cup

Jackson Goldstone could miss his first chance at an elite World Cup. The Canadian is with his Syndicate teammates in Morzine, France, doing a test run on the new race day schedule for this year’s World Cup racing, but is sitting out due to an injury.

On what was scheduled to be a practice day, Steve Peat hopped on the Syndicate’s Instagram stories to update that Goldstone had headed to a local hospital to deal with an appendix issue and possibly surgery. With the first World Cup of 2023 scheduled for next weekend in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, that would make it unlikely that Goldstone would be ready to compete in just seven days.

Peat clarified in a second post that they are still waiting for a final word on Goldstone’s condition before making a decision on Lenzerheide.

This is the second appendix-related setback for Goldstone this year. Earlier in 2023, the Squamish phenom spent a few days in Vancouver’s Lions Gate Hospital with a ruptured appendix. Hopefully, the Syndicate racer can get the issue sorted and get back on course soon.

2023 will be Goldstone’s first year in the elite World Cup ranks. It is the next step after a wildly successful junior career for the Canadian, and it can be a big one. While the injuries could be starting him on the back foot, Goldstone looked quite comfortable racing with the big boys at several early-season races around the world. And when he won Red Bull Hardline at the end of 2022, of course.
