Reece Wilson is joining the growing list of riders that won’t be kitting up for the Leogang World Cup this weekend. The Trek racer shared his decision to step away from racing for now, but left the specific cause vague.

“I’ve made the hard decision to put him race season on hold this week,” Wilson said. “I’ve not felt like myself for the past few months for reasons I don’t yet understand.”

Unlike some of the other riders sitting out the Austrian World Cup round, Wilson has left his race hiatus open ended.

While saying he’s not felt like himself, Wilson hasn’t exactly been slow. He was seventh at the opening World Cup of 2022 in Lourdes, France. In Fort William, he was still in the top-20.

It’s a big announcement not just because Wilson is the 2020 world champion. Leogang is the very venue where the Scottish rider earned his rainbow stripes. To opt to sit out racing starting with Leogang had to be a hard decision for the Trek Factory Racing rider.

Wilson’s full statement:

“I’ve made the hard decision to put my race season on hold this week. I’ve not felt like myself the past few months for reasons I don’t yet understand. I don’t currently have a date to return for and instead will take as long as I need. I have a great support network around me and look forward to feeling like me again so I can return to racing at full health. I’ll update you when I know more. Good luck to all the racers in Leogang this weekend and a special good luck to the Trek Factory Racing DH guys.”
