Rocky Mountain rolls out Thunderbolt Alloy
Lightening strikes a second time with new Alloy version of the 27.5" XC-Trail bike from Vancouver brand
Rocky Mountain is hard at work mining metal, it seems. After releasing the Instinct Alloy BC Edition in early August, the Vancouver company is back with a new Alloy version of the recently redesigned Thunderbolt.
The new-look carbon fibre Thunderbolt struck earlier this year, bringing the popular 27.5″ XC-Trail bike up to date with more modern geometry numbers. The company pushed the bikes rear travel up to 130mm, and added Boost hub spacing, and compatibility with a host of recent tech develpments like Di2, Fox Live Valve and internal dropper post routing.
Like its pricier carbon fibre brethren, the Thunderbolt Alloy line features Rocky Mountain’s Ride-9 geometry and suspension adjustment system, ISCG05 mounts for Rocky’s integrated “spirit guide” chain guide, and a tougher, more “trail” oriented component build. The Alloy version of Rocky’s 27.5″ trail bike will also fit 26×2.8″ -plus tires, for those looking for a small-wheeled plus tire option.
Rocky Mountain’s Ride-9 adjustable geometry and suspension system makes its way over to the Alloy models. The nine position system lets you easily tune your Thunderbolt Alloy to lean more toward the XC or more toward the aggressive Trail side of the bike’s XC-Trail capabilities.
With the move to the less expensive frame material, the Thunderbolt Alloy 10 becomes the least expensive dual suspension bike in Rocky Mountain’s line-up.
The spirit guide chain guide and integrated frame guard, which protect the downtube and chainstays, keep that purple paint shimmering. The frame protectors and chain guide can be replaced or, if you really want to shave grams, removed.
A full range of internal cable routing options means you can run a wide range of cable / component options without having to run cables outside the frame.
Rocky Mountain’s newest trail bike is available in stores across the country now. Each of the three build options is available in a range four sizes, from Small to XL.
Canadian pricing for the Alloy XC-trail bike is:
Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt Alloy 50: $4,000
Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt Alloy 30: $3,250
Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt Alloy 10:Â $2,500
