The Ninth NIMBY 50, 11th Granny's Gary Oak, Fifth River Valley Rumble and 2018's first Canada Cup DH

Canada Cup DH #1 – Mont Tremblant, Que

The slopes of Mont Tremblant hosted the first round of Canada Cup DH racing over the weekend, along with the Canada Cup XC event and a host of other cycling events as part of the Crossroads Tremblant cycling festival. Devinci Racing stamped their authority on the combined Elite and Jr. Men’s category, with Hugo Langevin leading Jonathan Lefrancois and Philippe Ricard in sweeping the first Canada Cup event of the year. Kristen Courtney (Liv Cycling Canada) took top honours in the Elite Women’s race, followed by Audreé Vaillancourt and Maxine Bergeron. There’s now a two month break in the series before racing resumes out west at Silverstar in Vernon, B.C. in July. Full Mont Tremblant Canada Cup DH results here.

NIMBY Fifty 2018
2018 NIMBY Fifty Elite Men: 4th Ian Murray, 2nd Cory Wallace, 1st Quinn Moberg, 3rd Ricky Federau, 5th Chris Johnston

NIMBY Fifty XCM – Pemberton, B.C.

Over 300 people started the 9th, and penultimate running of the NIMBY Fifty technical XCM in Pemberton, B.C. on Saturday, the third event in the BC Premier XC Marathon Series. Quinn Moberg (Rocky Mountain) won the Men’s race ahead of Cory Wallace (Kona) and Jamie Sparling (Tantalus Bikes) while Mical Dyck (Juliana) repeated for her fifth NIMBY title ahead of Sonya Looney (Freakshow SCOTT) and Carey Mark (BCBR/Rocky Mountain). Dylan Wolsky (Santa Cruz Bicycles) and Emily Slaco (Bike Co./Chromag/North Shore Billet) won the Dissent Down Time, a mid-race timed section of course on the steep, loose Overnight Sensation trail. 2018 NIMBY Fifty Elite Women: 4th Jena Greaser, 2nd Sonya Looney, 1st Mical Dyck, 3rd Carey Mark, 5th Katelyn Button

Island Cup – All Mountain championships – Nanaimo, B.C.

Victoria racer Max McCulloch (Slightly Rad Racing) was both rad and fast, winning Saturday’s Benson Enduro and Sunday’s XC race at Doumont to claim the Island Cup All Mountain Championships title, matched by Carys Evans went undefeated over two days of racing on the Women’s side. Hardcore River Valley Rumble – Edmonton, Alta.

For it’s fifth annual River Valley Rumble, Hardcore Bikes went long. Competitors raced around the Sunridge trails in Edmonton for five straight hours solo, or in teams of two. David Yexley (Bicisport) and Jay Smith (Velocity CC) were the top Man and Woman still standing as the clock wound down on the endurance event, with Sean Germain (Steedz Enduro) and Robin Baillie following Yexley while Sarah Dickey and Meighan Achtemichuk (Mud, Sweat & Gears) trailed Smith. Sask Cup #2 – Granny’s Garry Oak Twister – Esterhazy, Sask.

David Vaughn and Shawna Donaldson were the top Elite racers at the East Qu’Appelle Cartel’s 11th annual Granny’s Garry Oak Twister in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. Cory Zetterstrom and Alex Vanneste were runner up to Vaughn, while Donaldson dropped Renee Stukel and Erica Musyj to win her race. Full results can be found here.

Defi Mike’s Bike Shop XCO – Dieppe, N.B.

133 racers started the Defi Mike’s Bike Shop, with a large youth contingent that saw age groups as young as U11 on course in Dieppe, New Brunswick. Julien Roussel and Annik Belanger were the top placed Elite riders at the end of the day. Check out results, including all the youth categories, and a full photo gallery of all the racers here.

CPEI Citizen Series #1 – Riverside Ripper XCO – East Royalty, P.E.I.

Mark Craig, Anna Brazil won the opening race in the CPEI Citizen Series of cross country events. The Riverside Ripper was held in East Royalty, Charlottetown on the site of the 2015 Acadian Games mountain bike races. Full results here.
