Watch: Canadian Kurt Sorge three-peats as Red Bull Rampage champion

Hold onto your hats for the 2017 race winning run

Canadian freeride mountain biker Kurt Sorge from Nelson, B.C. won his third career Red Bull Rampage on the cliffs of Zion National park in Virgin, Utah on Friday. The 29-year-old is the first three time Red Bull Rampage winner in the events history. Sorge also won in 2015 and 2012.

Sorge’s insane run was capped with two massive backflips and other technical moves on his smooth winning run. Riders are judged on their line choice down the iconic red cliffs, their technical ability and the complexity of tricks they perform during their run.

“I’m speechless. I can’t believe it. It was a lot of work out here for a couple of weeks, and to make my diggers, everyone back home and the fans proud, is out of this world,” Sorge said.

Second place finisher Cam Zink looked poise to take the win having lead the competition during the early runs. He took steep lines and his back flips off flat step-downs had him looking good for the win. However, on his second run as he looked to be challenging Sorge for the win he attempted a back-flip on the last jump to get a few more extra points but crashed. Zink finished with 90.33 points to Sorge’s 92.66. Ethan Nell rounded out the podium in third.

Canadians Brandon Semenuk took the win last year but failed to defend the title ending the day in fourth having crashed on his first run.
