Barry breaks arm in Belgium

Surgery to repair injury a success in London.

Sky Procycling’s Michael Barry has suffered another bone-breaking accident. This time at the Tour of Wallonie’s stage three, where he crashed and broke his arm during the final sprint in Beaufays, Belgium.

“Thx for all the get well notes. Surgery is done (in Manchester) and went well. Bigger plate and screws put in. Now it is tea time….,” Barry tweeted.

Barry returned to the peloton this spring after recovering from a broken femur and elbow sustained at the Tour of Qatar in February.

“We can confirm that Michael has unfortunately broken the same arm in which he suffered a broken elbow in Qatar and is currently undergoing checks in Belgium before being flown back to the UK tonight for further tests,” said Team Sky Doctor Richard Freeman in a press release.

Barry spoke with Canadian Cycling Magazine in a live web chat in May. When asked how many bones he has broken during his lengthy cycling career, he said, “elbow x2, femur x2, scaphoid, ribs (many), nose, vertebrae x 6…..”
