Mothers everywhere agree: when it’s cold, put on a hat. The Etxeondo Kapelu classic cap 1 ($18, mec.ca) looks good when you have your helmet on or off. Cover your core and your arms with something warm, comfortable, and able to keep some wind and rain out (Specialized Women’s Thermal long-sleeve jersey 2 , $170, specialized.com). On your legs, it’s time to add a little length. Get something that goes below the knees, such as Specialized Women’s Thermal 3/4 tights 3 ($150, specialized.com). Alternatively, you can add to your bib shorts with MEC’s Calefaction leg warmers 4 ($45, mec.ca), which will have you covered all the way to your ankles. If you get hit with rain, or even wet snow, get help from a country that knows precipitation. Scottish company Endura has a jacket (Women’s Windchill Jacket II 5 , $175, livetoplaysports.com) that will keep the elements out. At this temperature range, you can still get away with light booties (Nalini Settanta overshoes 6 , $70, f3distribution.com). If you find you need better protection for your tootsies, wear booties made with neoprene. Your fingers will stay toasty with a pair of Giant Chill gloves 7 ($40, giant-bicycles.com).
