Gagné earns double wins in Rochester cyclocross

Canada’s Raphael Gagné (Rocky Mountain Factory) secured double victories in the elite men’s races at the UCI C2 Ellison Park Cyclocross held in Rochester, N.Y. His fellow countryman Natasha Elliott (Rare Vos Racing-Stevens) earned two third-place podiums during the two-day event.

Gagné opened the weekend of racing with a victory by six seconds ahead of Zach McDonald (Rapha-Focus) and Anthony Clark (Jam Fund/NCC). Other Canadians who put forth strong performances were Norco Factory teammates Evan McNeely and Andre Watson in fourth and fifth place, Michael Van Den Ham (Cycle-Smart) placed seventh, Andrew L’Esperance (Norco Factory) 12th, Derrick St. John (Stevens Racing-The Cyclery) 13th and Mike Garrigan (Van Dessel)18th, Peter Glassford (Trek Canada) 20th and Tom Burke (Wolverine Racing-Trek) in 26th on the day.

Laura Van Gilder (Van Dessel presented by Mushroom Pizza Bakers) won the women’s race by four seconds ahead of Mo Bruno Roy (Bob’s Red Mill presented by Seven Cycles) and 52 seconds ahead of Elliott. Canada’s Kelly Paterson (Wolverine Racing-Acfstores.com) placed 23rd overall.

During the second day of racing, Gagné took the win ahead of Cameron Dodge (Scott Bikes) in second and McNeely in third. Garrigan improved on his previous day’s performance with a fourth place and Watson in seventh.

Van Den Ham placed 11th, St. John 15th, Glassford 17th, L’Esperance 18th, Adam York (Wolverine Racing-Acfstores.com) 29th and Jon Erguin (Orbea) took 32nd on the day.

In the women’s race, Van Gilder took a second consecutive win ahead of Bruno Roy and Elliott. Canada’s Erin Mascelli (Keough Cyclocross presented by Felt) crossed the line in 21st place.

Toronto Cross – Hoss Cross Festival: O-Cup #3 In Toronto, Emily Batty (Trek Factory Racing) won the Toronto Cross – Hoss Cross Festival at Centennial Park on Sunday. She took the victory by more than two minutes ahead of Mandy Dreyer (Tuf Rack Racing) and nearly four minutes ahead of Ashley Barson (Coachchris.ca-Ted Velikonja) in third. Adam Morka (Independent) won the elite men’s race ahead of junior world cross country silver medallist Peter Disera (Centurion Development Canada) in second and Marco Li (Beaches Cycling Club) in third.
