Viral video of cars driving on a bike-only lane on bridge in Toronto shocks local cyclists
Frustrated cyclists couldn't believe a motorist was blocking their way

Driver heads south on bridge blocking riders
TikTok user malliuh posted the video of two drivers making their way across the newly constructed bike lane by Toronto’s waterfront. The clip clearly shows a distinctive blue and green road divider that serves as a visual marker. Cyclists, forced to walk alongside their bikes, are bewildered and frustrated with the vehicle. To make things worse, just to the side there is the obvious lane for cars.
Why these vehicles decided to ride on the bike lane section of the bridge is unclear as well.
Sure, there’s no bollards or signage, but it’s fairly obvious it’s a bike lane.
Construction part of large revitalization project
The bridge was opened in October 2022 as part of a large-scale reconstruction of the area into a recreational space.

After the incident, a spokesperson from Waterfront Toronto provided a statement to CP24.com. Apparently this is the first recorded incident of a car breaching the bikes-only pathway on Cherry Street South. Which is shocking given how often these happens in cities across North America.
Someone made the absolute best comment about cars in bike lanes
“To address any possible confusion while Cherry Street is under construction, the construction manager will be adding additional signs for motorists travelling westbound on Commissioners Street,” the statement read.
