This year will be the 12th edition of Pumpkin Cross, and will take place on 28 October. New for 2018, the event is now part of the Lower Mainland Cyclocross 2018 Kazlaw Cup series (LMCX)

Event sponsor Liv Cycling returns again, and will be offering its Women’s Learn to Race Clinic. Led by Liv ambassador, World Cup mountain bike racer and BC Cyclocross provincial champion Sandra Walter, the clinic is a chance for women to learn from an international racer on the course they will be racing on.

“We are very motivated to grow women’s cycling,” says race director Barry Lyster. “Since we partnered with Liv to offer the clinics, and the special pricing, we have seen the numbers of women participating in cyclocross increase across the region.”

Pumpkin Cross is offering a $35 special package for first time women racers which includes the clinic, race entry and one-day race license.

As with all LMCX events, youth races will be taking place for all ages and skill levels at Pumpkin Cross. This includes Cycling BC’s IRide program offering free clinics and races for kids under the age of 12, including loaning out bikes for those that don’t have anything to race. The IRide schedule, and more information can be found at Cycling  BC’s website.

Last, but definitely not least, is the Halloween costume contest. Pumpkin Cross has built a reputation around the Lower Mainland for bringing out creative, mostly bike-friendly costumes. As a race-within-a-race, riders will compete for the top step of the costume podium as they’re racing to be first across the finish line.
