At that event, he enjoyed connecting with riders of all abilities and talking gear and racing. “It was a change from being someone who is so stressed for the five days before the World Cup race that if someone says, ‘Hi,’ I have to say, ‘Sorry I can’t talk. I need to go recover because I have a race soon,’” he says.
