A boutique custom apparel company that provides bespoke designs

Beyond/Threshold is a new Canadian clothing brand

New kit day is one of the best days of the year. But getting there can be a headache. When a club or team is putting together orders for the new season, there can be a lot of stress involved. Not everyone will have the same opinion on jersey design. And not everyone, in fact, almost nobody, is a bona fide designer.

Then, when the club finally agrees on the look, the order goes out. Then, it’s the waiting game. If you’re ordering from one of the larger clothing companies, getting your kit can take months. When it arrives, it will usually go to whoever on the club or team ordered it, and it’s up to them to handle distributing the order. Usually that person is a volunteer, so it’s a bit of a job to organize that.

Enter Beyond/Threshold. It’s a new clothing company run by James McLean. He’s a cyclist himself, as well as a designer. The company is taking a new approach to cycling clothing, from conception, to creation, and delivery.

How it works

The process begins with a consultation with James. From there, he will develop anywhere from 5-10 comps, based on the style and look you’re looking for. The designs will incorporate the themes, logos and vision that you’ve communicated with James.

The bespoke approach is much different than the larger companies, as with the big brands, oftentimes there is no designer involved. So you’ll be getting several unique and dynamic designs, nothing template-y or formulaic. You’re in charge of the look, and get a personal designer to guide you through the process. It’s a boutique company, so there’s flexibility and plenty of back-and-forth to make sure you get exactly what you want.

Client interaction

The website uses an online portal for every club or team as soon as they sign on. You can get your kit approved within 30 minutes. Which means Beyond/Threshold can upload the artwork to a personal microsite that is password protected, and from there, you can place your orders.

Hands-on approach

Since the company is a smaller one, there’s no “customer service line” or generic email. You won’t have to wait a week for an answer. Beyond/Threshold is available for you and will respond the same day.

Delivery

No, a giant box of kit will not end up at the club treasurer’s door. No, he or she will not need to sift through a pile of jerseys, shorts, caps and jackets and figure out who gets what.

Beyond/Threshold will deliver each package of kit to each person on the club or team. Gone are the days of sorting out other club member’s clothing. Of course, if you still would prefer bulk shipping, this is an option, but the orders will still be sorted for you.

Quality

Beyond/Threshold uses high end, 7+hr Italian-made, Elastic Interface PARIS HP chamois. It has ultra-high density inserts in the perineal and isochiatic area. There is a wide range of both road and off-road, for both summer and winter riding. Many of the fabrics and grippers are high quality and made in Italy. There is also a fit kit that is available and if the fit kit is used, then the final order fit is guaranteed. You just have to try the fit kit on before placing your order.

Price point

This may be the best part. For a full kit, as in jersey and shorts, or skinsuit, it’s 200 bucks. 200 bucks! You can can even order new branding for your club or team.

If you’re looking for a quick turnaround, with unique and stylish kit, Beyond/Threshold may be for you. To learn more, check out Beyond/Threshold.
