MTB Forks

Choose the right fork to match your riding style.

Just as important as the frame itself, choosing the right fork to match your riding style is key. Here are three mountain bike forks with three serving three different purposes.

SID World Cup XX – $1,709
Rockshox
13112

The XX refers to this version of the SID as being part of SRAM’s new superlight cross country racing build kit. The SID has a long history of race wins at the top levels of the sport. The 2010 SID has a one piece carbon fibre crown and steerer with 32mm uppers and magnesium lowers for a feathery weight of just 1,405 g. Travel can be set at 80 or 100mm through RockShox’ dual air spring and BlackBox motion control.

36 Float – $1,700
Fox
13104

Weighing in at less than five pounds and offering six inches of bump-eating travel, the 36 FLOAT gets the nod as one of the lightest and most versatile all mountain forks on the market. Fox uses its RC2 damper and FIT cartridge for exceptional mid to high speed damping without compromising the fork’s broad rebound range. For added control at high speeds, Fox employs a 20QR tool-free thru axle system, which increases fork stiffness while still allowing quick wheel changes and repairs.

::GEARBOX
55 RC3 Titanium – $1,050
Marzocchi
13116

The Marzocchi Fifty Five series is meant to serve the same purpose as an all-mountain bike: to be a do-it-all fork. It’s light for marathon race use, yet strong enough to handle freeriding. The 55RC3 Titanium is one of Marzocchi’s updated models for 2010. It has 160mm of travel, a new titanium spring, 35mm stanchions and a 20mm quick release. Available in both 1-1/8″ and 1.5″ steerer options.
