S-Works – $250
Specialized
13043

At 225 g for a size medium, the S-Works helmet hold the enviable title of being the lightest helmet that complies to the CPSC safety standards as well as SNELL B90A, CE and AS/NZS standards. What this means in plain English is that Specialized did not compromise protection in the quest for low weight. This impressive safety-to-weight ratio is achieved thanks to the use of a double-density EPS and the Kevlar-reinforced inner matrix which together save weight and allow for massive vents. For extra comfort during long rides, Specialized uses soft and supple webbing that won’t absorb moisture.

Sterling – $280
Rudy Project
13044

With 18 large vents, the Sterling offers excellent ventilation for warm-weather riding, but it’s the addition of the dual-purpose exposed reinforcement rib that sets this helmet apart from the competition. Not only does this rib add strength, but it also provides a secure resting spot for expensive sunglasses. Finally, Rudy Project includes a removable internal mesh bug-stop, which prevents insects from entering the large vents and smacking against a cyclist’s head.

Volt – $220
Bell
13129

As Bell’s top-of-the road racing helmet, the Volt delivers excellent ventilation, low weight and a comfortable fit without compromising protection. A series of vents and internal channels force airflow over the rider’s head, ensuring comfort during warm conditions while X-Static silver-lined sweat pads quickly wick perspiration without retaining odours. For a secure fit, Bell includes its Twin Axis Gear fit system, which allows for adjustment in circumference and the vertical positioning of the adjustment harness behind the head.
