Schwalbe and Syntace team up to develop new dual chamber tire system

Schwalbe Dual Chamber System

Schwalbe and Syntace have teamed up to develop a new dual chamber tire and wheel system that will allow mountain bikers to ride and race on lower air pressures. The companies stated that the dual chamber system will improve overall tire performance. More information will be available by Eurobike held Aug. 27-30 in Germany.

In a press release, the companies said they had come up with the dual chamber system idea independently of one another, but decided to work together on its development. They noted the importance of low tire pressure in mountain biking, which allows tires to adapt to varying terrain and conditions while providing more grip and control.

Mountain bikers tend not to run pressures lower than 20 psi because there is a greater possibility of pinch flats and damaged rims. The dual chamber system offers a second air chamber inside the tire, which is positioned at the edge of the rim. The inner chamber would hold a higher air pressure and the outer chamber could be reduced to only 14 psi, which would help tires stick to the ground, especially at high speeds.

They will work with standard tires and rims, if the rims have two valve holes.
