2014 holiday gift guide: Small and cool gear

You shouldn’t be riding under 10 m of water. But if you find yourself in so deep, you can record it with the Contour Roam 3 as the point-of-view camera is waterproof to that depth. It’s well designed with few buttons to clutter it up. For further customization, you can download the Contour Storyteller software. The Roam 3 can shoot in a resolution as high as high as 1080p or as low as 480p. There’s nothing weird about giving Rubbers as a gift.

You shouldn’t be riding under 10 m of water. But if you find yourself in so deep, you can record it with the Contour Roam 3 (1, $270, micasport.com) as the point-of-view camera is waterproof to that depth. It’s well designed with few buttons to clutter it up. For further customization, you can download the Contour Storyteller software. The Roam 3 can shoot in a resolution as high as high as 1080p or as low as 480p. There’s nothing weird about giving Rubbers (2, riderubbers.com) as a gift. In fact, it’s incredibly practical. For the holidays, you can get a special package ($45): three tubes (either 26″, 700c or 29″) and a cotton T-shirt that reads, “You’ll never know when you’ll need one.” The perfect gift for Mom, no? The Octto professional bottle cage (3, $60, octto.com) keeps a bottle secure. It has a rubber gripper at its top screw to improve the hold. The bottle cage comes in black and white. The IceDot crash sensor (4, $119, icedot.org) adds an extra level of safety to your rides. If you crash, the sensor will work in conjunction, via low-energy Bluetooth, with an app on your smartphone. The app will send out a text to emergency contacts you’ve selected beforehand. The message will contain GPS co-ordinates if they are available. With a blend of merino wool, Lycra and polyamide yarn, the Assos bonkaSock_ evo7 socks (5, $39, assos.com) provide excellent insulation. The socks are high enough to cover well past your ankles: the right length for cold-weather rides. Keep your digits warm with the Assos bonkaGloves_evo7 gloves (6, $159, assos.com). They have a Goldilocks quality: they are not so tight that they restrict blood flow and they are not so loose that they allow warmth to escape. What time is it? Time to put a bicycle-themed clock on the wall. Salvaged parts are put to good use with this chainring clock (7, $181, therecycler.ca).
