2017-2018 UCI Cyclocross World Cup starts Sunday at Jinglecross

Fourteen Canadians to muck it up in Iowa

Sunday is round one of the 2017-2018 UCI Cyclocross World Cup, with the first event in Iowa at Jinglecross. September’s two races are set in the USA, just like last season. This means plenty of Canadians will be mucking it up on this Sunday in Iowa and next Sunday in Waterloo, Wisconsin.

The 2017-2018 season saw Belgian Wout van Aert take the men’s title after winning half of the eight events, with Sophie de Boer of the Netherlands earning the women’s title. Last year the Koksijde, Belgium event was cancelled because of high winds, so Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel took advantage of the situation to get some training in.

Last season, the first two races of the World Cup season were Crossvegas and Jinglecross in Iowa. Eight Canadian men and seven Canadian women contested those two races. Catherine Pendrel was 7th in Las Vegas, where Mical Dyck placed 14th, and 6th in Iowa. Michael van den Ham was the top North American in Las Vegas in 17th, while Geoff Kabush and Jeremy Martin placed 22nd and 23rd.

Nommay, France is hosting for the first time since 2013-2014 on January 21 and Bogense, Denmark is thrilled to hold a race on November 19.

This season’s World Championships will be held in Limburg, the Netherlands.
