Wednesday was the final day at the world track championships in Glasgow with the women’s sprint, women’s omnium, men’s points race and men’s keirin all on show tonight in front of yet another sold out Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. Canada was represented in the women’s omnium and men’s points race.

There’s a changing of the guard in the women’s sprint and men’s keirin. The women’s sprint finals took place this evening minus Canada’s Kelsey Mitchell and Lauriane Genest. The powerhouse German duo lost in their medal rounds with Emma Hinze losing the bronze medal to Kiwi Ellesse Andrews while Sophie Friedrich was beaten by Great Britain’s Emma Finucane for gold.

Canada’s Michael Leonard tenth in the Glasgow Worlds U23 time trial

In the men’s keirin, another upset took place with Colombian Kevin Quintero taking the gold away from last year’s champion Harrie Lavreysen, who ended up finishing out of the medals in fourth.
Maggie Coles-Lyster looked to challenge for the podium after her fourth place finish at last year’s world omnium championships. After a solid seventh place finish in the scratch race, Coles-Lyster had a tough tempo race, and then a crash in the elimination put her way of medal contention. She will have another shot at these world championships, racing on the road on Sunday.

Mathias Guillemette impresses in points race

Mathias Guillemette put on an outstanding performance in the men’s points race. After a slow start, Guillemette found his groove and started climbing in the standings to eventually finish sixth. New Zealand’s Aaron Gate taking the win.
