42 week pregnant New Zealand minister bikes to hospital to give birth

Julie Genter, the associate minister of transportation and member of the Green Party, decided to ride to the hospital with her husband

New Zealand’s minister for women Julie Genter was 42 weeks pregnant when she hopped onto an electric bike to take herself to the Aukland City Hospital. Genter is a member of the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand in the House of Representatives and said there was no room in her car so decided to ride the distance accompanied by her husband.

The 38-year-old posted a relaxed picture of herself announcing the trip. “Beautiful Sunday morning for a bike ride, to the hospital, for an induction to finally have this baby. This is it, wish us luck!”

Explaining the decision to ride, she wrote, “My partner and I cycled because there wasn’t enough room in the car for the support crew… but it also put me in the best possible mood!”

Genter is New Zealand’s associate transport minister and a public and out-spoken cycling advocate. “Probably should have cycled more in the last few weeks to get the labour going!” she joked.
