Aaron Fillion wins Ontario Time Trial Championships
On Sunday, Aaron Fillion (Ride with Rendall) won the 40-km Impala Bicycles Ontario Time Trial Championships with a time of 56 minutes, 1:44 ahead of Charles Bryer. Fillion’s teammate Lucas Bent finished third 2:02 behind.
Jack Burke (NCCH p/b PEC Express) won the under-23 men’s championship with a time of 56:13 ahead of his teammate William Elliot and Robert Gutgesell of (Jet Fuel – Norco) in third.
Annie Foreman-Mackey (Stevens p/b The Cyclery) dominated the elite woman’s event, winning the 40-km time trial with a time of 1:02:57; more than two and a half minutes ahead of Paolina Allan (Holiday Inn (Calgary Airport)) in second and Jamie Gilgen (Real Deal Gears) who finished 5:06 behind in third.
The course was among the most challenging time trial courses in recent years. The average speeds certainly weren’t record breaking which was a function of the undulating terrain and technical sections. With very few flat stretches to turn a big gear and build momentum, it was no easy feat to find a steady rhythm, thus making it a time trial for the true specialists.
