Alec Cowan, Holly Simonson take national criterium championships
Last day of racing closes out Edmonton event
Photo by: Grégoire CrevierLA Sweat’s Holly Simonson from British Columbia and Legion of LA’s Alec Cowan snagged the wins in the elite women’s and men’s criterium championships on Monday, the final day of racing in Edmonton.
Simonson took the win from Ruby West, fresh off a big win at the Pan-Am championships, with BC’s Jenna Nestman took second. DNA’s Sarah Van Dam was once again top u-23, taking another maple leaf jersey home.

In the men’s race, Legion of LA’s Alec Cowan took a big win over the new u-23 road champion Philippe Jacob (Team Ecoflo Chronos.) Cannondale Echelon p/b 4iiii’s took third, and second with Team Ecoflo Chronos rider, and also u-23, Jerome Gauthier slotting in fourth overall. Fifth was TaG Cycling Race Team’s Axel Froner (also a u-23).

AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step U19 Team’s Nora Linton took another fine win in the junior women’s crit, adding to her time trial win on Friday.

In the junior men’s, it was Ignite Junior Cycling’s Patrick Harris taking the maple leaf.
