Alison Jackson the sole Canadian at the Santos Women’s Tour

Four stage race comes the week after Australian nationals

Canadian Alison Jackson will make her debut for new team Team Tibco-SVB at the Santos Women’s Tour, which begins on January 11 and runs to the 14th. Jackson raced for Italian squad Bepink-Cogeas in 2017, taking 14th in the WorldTour Ladies Tour of Norway.

The Santos Women’s Tour comes just before the first men’s WorldTour event of the year, the Santos Tour Down Under. The Santos Women’s Tour isn’t part of the Women’s World Tour; that won’t begin until Strade Bianche on March 3.

Jackson is one of several making their debuts for new squads. Two time world champion Giorgia Bronzini (Italy) starts her first race for Cylance Pro Cycling after five seasons with Wiggle.

Australian winners of the first two editions of the Santos Women’s Tour, Amanda Spratt (Mitchelson-Scott) and Katrin Garfoot (UniSA-Australia), who took Saturday’s national time trial title, will line up in Gumeracha on Thursday, as will Jackson’s teammate and new Australian road race champion, Shannon Malseed.

The race consists of three hilly road course, with hilltop finishes on Stages 2 and 3 before an evening criterium on Wakefield Road in Adelaide.
