Argyll Velodrome Association looking for $91 million from City of Edmonton

The-City-of-Edmonton-Logo1Earlier this year, the Argyll Velodrome Association outlined their plans to create a new indoor velodrome out of the old Coronation Park hockey arena in Edmonton, Alta.

According to an article posted on CBC’s Edmonton website, the Argyll Velodrome Association is looking for a $91 million commitment from the City of Edmonton to build the track. The group’s proposal is to create the facility as an extension of the Peter Hemingway Fitness and Liesure Centre that will be in Coronation Park.

It’s been estimated that the Velodrome will cost upwards of $111 million and with the help of the City of Edmonton, the Argyll Velodrome association feels they can raise the remaining $20 million.

The initiative does have support from Edmonton city council members who recognize its merits, however they’re unsure where the city might find the money requested.  Coun. Bryan Anderson said it’s not as much a question of support but rather how to commit the funding.

The Argyll Velodrome Association is halted at the moment, citing that they need a commitment from the city before they can proceed with their fundraising campaign.

Complete information on the project and campaign can be found at the Argyll Velodrome Association.
