Australian criterium robbed

ccccCLUBOn Sunday, one of the largest cycling clubs in Australia was robbed. The Carnegie Caufield Cycling Club, based near Melbourne, Australia was hosting its weekly club criterium when it was robbed by an armed assailant.

The mysterious man who committed the crime is yet to be identified. He had been loitering sometime before the race even started. Using a hammer, the man threatened the registration team and managed to take all of the cash in their till. In total, close to $700 was stolen.

No one was injured and to date this has been a localized occurrence. Authorities have not found the robber.

Before this year’s world championships, the Russian team’s bikes were stolen. Garmin-Sharp lost 250,000 euros in equipment when all of their bikes were stolen at the Tour de Mediterranean in February. In 2007, Team Canada lost all of their bikes when they were stolen at the world championships in September of that year.
