Barrette takes fourth in keirin World Cup

Canada’s Hugo Barrette earned fourth place in the men’s keirin at the third UCI track cycling World Cup on Saturday in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Barrette placed third, out of the third heat, during the event’s first round. He went on to place first, out of heat three, during the first round of repechage.

He won his heat during the second round and moved on to the final round competing for the gold medal. He placed fourth in the six-rider heat behind the title winner Holland’s Matthijas Buchli, Colombia’s Santiago Ramirez and Great Britain’s Alexander Lewis Oliva.

Allison Beveridge, who won the gold medal in the team pursuit the previous day, kicked off the second day of track racing with the women’s omnium. She placed 10th in the flying lap, second in the points race and eighth in the elimination race.

She has a total of 20 points and is sitting in sixth place overall with three races to go. The individual pursuit, scratch race and the 500-metre time trial will be held on Sunday, the final day of racing. Poland’s Katarzyna Pawlowska is leading the omnium with nine points.
