BC Superweek announces series dates for the next four years

Canada's biggest race series takes to the Metro Vancouver area for eight days of racing over 10 days

The dates for BC Superweek have been confirmed for the coming four years. Canada’s biggest road race series that has welcomed top Canadian athletes and international riders over the past 15 years spans eight races over 10 days. The series takes place in the Metro Vancouver area offering over $125,000 in prize money.

“For more than 15 years, fans have come out to see the best pro cycling at BC Superweek and we’re excited that it will continue for the foreseeable future,” said Series Director Mark Ernsting. “Over the years at BC Superweek, fans have had the unique opportunity to watch the development of riders who have become marquee names on the world stage.”

Notable cyclists who have raced at BC Superweek include Canadians Alex Stieda, Brian Walton, Svein Tuft, Christian Meier and Americans Davis Phinney, Chris Horner, and Tyler Farrar on the men’s side. On the women’s side Canadians Alison Sydor, Leah Kirchmann, Denise Ramsden, Leslie Tomlinson and international riders Shelley Olds, Tina Pic, Ina Teutenberg, and Marianne Berglund have all competed at BC Superweek.

The events that make up BC Superweek are the Tour de Delta, the Gastown Grand Prix, the Giro di Burnaby, PoCo Grand Prix, and the Tour de White Rock.

In 2017, BC Superweek will kick off with the Tour de Delta for three days of racing beginning on Friday, July 7 for the MK Delta Lands criterium in North Delta. The fishing village of Ladner hosts a second crit on Saturday, July 8 with the event finishing up with the UCI 1.2 event the White Spot / Delta road race on Sunday, July 9 in Tsawwassen.

The Gastown Grand Prix which takes the the streets of the historic district in downtown Vancouver and draws massive crowds takes place on Wednesday, July 12. It was awarded UCI status in 2016. The Giro di Burnaby, a criterium in the historic Heights neighbourhood takes place on Thursday, July 13.

The newest editions to BC Superweek is the PoCo Grand Prix which debuted at the 2016 edition of the series will take place on Friday, July 14 and take to the streets of Port Coquitlam.

The Tour de White Rock wraps up the series with a criterium on Saturday, July 15 and a challenging road race on Sunday, July 16.

The events over the course of the week draw crowds of thousands of spectators making it some of the most exciting and spectator-friendly racing in Canada.
