B.C. Superweek – Giro di Burnaby

Ken Hanson and Laura Van Gilder secure sprint victories

Ken Hanson (Kelly-Benefit Strategies) secured a second consecutive victory at B.C. Superweek, winning the Giro di Burnaby on Thursday. The American sprinted to the finish line ahead of Tommy Nankervis (Competitive Cyclist) and former winner Hilton Clarke (UnitedHealthcare).

“I think my teammates suffered a lot more than I did today, they were doing a lot of work,” said Hanson, who won the Gastown Grand Prix. “I did very minimal work to cover any breakaways and was able to stay fresh for the sprint.”

The Elite women’s race also ended in a bunch sprint, won by American Laura Van Gilder (Mellow Mushroom). The win adds to her more than 300 career wins.

Van Gilder out-paced Loren Rowney (Specialized-lululemon) in second and Jean Ann Beckenpas (Primal-Map My Ride) in third.
