BC Superweek: Tour de White Rock, Stage 2
NOW continues to dominate in the Choices Market Criterium
Florenz Knauer (Team Baier Landshut) stood on his fifth straight podium, while NOW and Novartis for MS took the top three spots for the second day in a row at the second event of the Tour de White Rock, the Choices Market Criterium.
Knauer’s compatriot Tim Gebauer (German National Team) stormed to a five-second drubbing of the men’s pack, rounding the hilly 30-lap, 60-km course in 1:10:01. Knauer was runner up while Aussie Tommy Nankervis (Bissell Pro Cycling) placed third. Nankervis also came third in the Brenco Criterium of the Tour de Delta. Ken Hanson (Optum presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies), winner of the Brenco Crit, looked to be on his way to another victory, but mysteriously faded in the final laps.
NOW’s numbers and power prevailed for the second consecutive day, as Logan, Utah’s Devon Gorry took her first win of the BC Superweek ahead of teammates Robin Farina, who has had three podium appearances over the past week, and Lauren Rauck Komanski. Gorry attributed the work of NOW riders Maura Kinsella and Olivia Dillon for helping to launch the trio. Komanski’s third place yesterday puts her in the omnium jersey with one stage to go.
Sunday, the Tour de White Rock and BC Superweek conclude with the Peace Arch News Road Race, Semiahmoo Bay and Mount Baker providing the scenic backdrops.
