Boily wins KOM in Sardinia

Team Spidertech p/b C10’s David Boily has won the mountains classification at the Giro di Sardegna — the team’s first stage race outing of 2011.

Boily took over the classification lead from Damiano Cunego on stage 4 Friday and held onto the lead through Saturday’s tough final stage, which ended with a 4-km climb that exploded the peloton.

Italian Michele Scarponi of Lampre won the stage, and Slovak Peter Sagan of Liquigas held on to the overall.

Boily’s mountains win is a morale boost for the Canadian squad, with riders prepping for Sunday’s Boucles du Sud de l’Ardeche in France sending congratulations via Twitter to the group in Sardinia, who will also line up Sunday for the Classica di Sarde Sassari.
