Bram Tankink puts on 16 jerseys from throughout career to celebrate 15th Amstel Gold Race

Dutch veteran will retire at the end of the season

Wily veteran Bram Tankink of LottoNL-Jumbo celebrated his 15th and last selection for Sunday’s Amstel Gold Race by wearing 16 jerseys from throughout his career and then removing them in order in a video posted on his Twitter account. The performance creates an interesting history of the 39-year-old rider and his teams. The Dutchman retires at the end of the season.

Tankink has ridden for two teams in their many iterations while contesting the Amstel Gold race. Belgian squad Domo-Farm Frites joined the remnants of Mapei to become Quick Step in 2003. Tankink then moved to Dutch outfit Rabobank in 2008, which in turn was named Belkin and then Blanco before finally becoming LottoNL-Jumbo in 2015. Next year the squad will be called Team Jumbo.

His best Amstel Gold Race result was 19th in 2011. In 40 Monuments raced, Tankink’s highest placings have been two 26th spots in the 2014 Paris-Roubaix and 2017 Milan-San Remo. He has two career wins including a stage win in the 2005 Deutschland Tour of the old ProTour.
