Busy week for Team SpiderTech

Canadian ProContinental team has squads racing in France and Utah

Team SpiderTech p/b C10 has riders racing on two continents this week. In France, the team is entered in the Tour de l’Ain, resuming its European campaign after a month off from racing. The team in France is being led by two double Canadian Champions in Svein Tuft (Langley, BC) and Hugo Houle (Ste-Perpétue, QC). The race kicked off with a 3.7 km prologue time trial. Tuft posted the top result with a 15th place. “In the end for Svein, he felt great, but the racing break is probably what cost him a better ride today. He wasn’t accelerating out of the corners well. He just lacks a bit of racing rhythm and the top end that only comes from racing,” director sportif Kevin Field said.

In Utah, the focus will be on strong climbing with 9,100m of elevation in the tour of Utah, which also kicked off yesterday with a short 2.1 km time trial. SpiderTech’s Pat McCarty was the fastest of the team and placed 11th in the general classification. McCarty, the Texas-native, will start the first stage tomorrow with 12 seconds to gain to grab the Tour lead. The Tour of Utah will most likely be won by a climber, with plenty of climbs throughout the 658 km race. McCarty, King of the Mountain at the 2011 AMGEN Tour of California and Team SpiderTech’s best climber, he will certainly be one to watch near the climbs KOM lines.
