Calgary driver arrested after hitting cyclist

Rider was hospitalized with severe injuries

A 19-year-old driver from Calgary has been arrested after hitting a cyclist. The rider was transported to a hospital on Sunday.

According to Cochrane RCMP on Sunday afternoon, the collision took place on Highway 22 near Bragg Creek and Redwood Meadows, an area situated approximately 30 km to the west of Calgary.

The cyclist was then airlifted to a Calgary hospital by the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS), the statement from the Mounties read.

The RCMP confirmed that the motorist had been charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm. The person remained at the scene following the collision and was subsequently taken into custody.
The identity of the individual in question was not published.

The cyclist continues to receive medical treatment in a hospital for severe injuries,authorities said.
