Canada second at women’s team sprint at Commonwealth Games, men fourth

Track racing has begun at Birmingham

Team sprint Commonwealth Games

Track is underway at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and Canada has its first medal. The team sprint is a three-lap race where each rider will do a lap, then withdraw, leaving one rider to finish the last lap. The Canadian team of Olympic champion Kelsey Mitchell, Sarah Orban and Lauriane Genest had a strong qualifier which put them in the final against New Zealand.

The team finished just behind the Kiwi squad, taking silver. The men would ride for bronze, but just missed out, taking fourth.

Other Canadian performances today included the team pursuit, where both the men and women would place fifth, which means they won’t go onto the finals.
