Cycling Canada Cyclisme

Cycling Canada CyclismeDrummondville, Que., will host the Canadian BMX Championships from Oct. 3rd to Oct. 5th.

Canada’s top BMX riders will compete for the coveted “maple leaf” jersey signifying our national champion. Coquitlam, BC native Tory Nyhaug will be the favourite to win the elite men’s events. Nyhaug is undefeated at the Canadian national championships. He has won in both the junior and elite categories every year he has competed.

Other notable riders include Airdrie, Alta’s Jim Brown, who placed 16th at the Supercross in Argentina earlier this year.

In the elite women’s events it is expected that Amelia Walsh of Ayr, Ont., will be a prevalent figure in the women’s elite categories. Walsh has competed in most of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cups this season. Here biggest competition will likely come from twin sisters, Elaine and Morgan McAdam, who in the last two seasons have dominated the junior women’s category.

The national championships will be hosted by the Club de BMX St-Charles-de-Drummond with the Federation Quénécois des sports cyclites. The BMX track itself was revamped in 2014 and has been tested earlier this year when the track was used for a Canada Cup.

The first competitions begin on Friday evening with time trials for the elite and junior categories. Complete information can be found at Cycling Canada.
